What drew you to a profession as an Administrative Professional?
I started my career as a hairdresser, however as a people person I knew I wanted to find a role in which I was able to grow and develop my people and organizational skills. Being in an administrative role it has provided diverse opportunities to use what I have learned through media, manufacturing, education and healthcare sectors. As a colleague, supervisor, leader and manager I have had the ability to play a vital part in the operations of these organizations and make a positive difference to the life of the institution and the people in it.
And as a School Office Administrator with WTS?
I strongly believe that education is the foundation upon which we build our future and having formerly worked for many years as a school secretary in a busy public primary school setting in the UK with children aged 3-11, I am thrilled to have the chance to be able to return to this fulfilling role where my heart truly lies. Working in the education sector helped me recognize and appreciate children with unique needs and I’m beyond delighted to assist children and parents with their journey at Woodstock Trinity School / The Oxford School and provide support to the Head Teacher and teaching staff through the School’s exciting future developments.
How long have you been in this profession?
I have been in administration capacity for 26 years which seems like a very long time considering I’m only 21 (at heart).
Where did you go to school?
I was born and raised in the United Kingdom and attended a local primary and secondary school in a small village on top of a mountain called Queensbury in West Yorkshire.
What are the highlights from your career?
I wanted to learn British Sign language so I could communicate effectively with students at the local college in the UK where I worked. I felt that it was important to make everyone feel inclusive and I’m thrilled that at Woodstock Trinity School we use ASL to sign our school pledge everyday in our morning exercises.
I was also heavily involved in the relocation and acquiring/designing the newer and much larger premises of the Oxford County Victorian Order of Nurses after their building had incurred a disaster of a partial roof collapse and were unable to stay safely in their building.
What’s a fun fact we can share about you - career related or not!
I used to be a professional Latin American, ballroom and disco majorette dancer and I was also involved with a local theatre group and played many roles including the front end of a horse!
